There was a 2-story schoolhouse in Newark, for which no picture or illustration exists.
An article was written (1891) about a series of schoolhouses that existed in Newark Village which were consolidated. There was reference to a two-story "cobble stone" schoolhouse. The Newark cobblestone was built in 1832, according to the article. It also was described as "as unattractive as can be conceived".

Editor's Note: The article to which Richard Palmer refers is titled "At the Dedication, An Event Long to Be Remembered - Interesting Speeches ... Superintendent A. S. Draper Delivered an Eloquent Opening Address", The Arcadian Weekly Gazette, Newark NY 12/23/1891. Use the provided link to view an excerpt which includes the reference to the Cobble Stone School.
